Do you waymark?

Waymarking is the new location for virtual and locationless cache entries. It is a new and fun site.

As someone said in the groundspeak forums, it all about marking, and nothing about visiting.
I wonder what percentage have even one visit by someone other than the original waymarker. :?:

And what is sad is that the good ones are hidden under all the crappy ones. One other thing I dislike about the site is how difficult the site is to navigate. It took me forever just to find out where the closest waymarks are from my house.

We Waymark and have been doing so since it's inception. I do agree that there is a lot of crap to wade though at Waymarking.com, and they are nothing like the virtuals that they hoped to replace.

Waymarks are hard to get into your Geocaching database with no PQ's. We did eventually figure out a way to put all of the Waymarks into our caching database. Since then we have been doing a lot more finding of Waymarks.

On the other hand if you live way off like we do and need to travel mucho miles to cache in a geocache dense area Waymarks are something to do when you get a day out. We have been mixing these in with benchmarks lately. We may only grab 2 or 3 caches but after a hand full of Waymarks and some benchmarks it is a nice day.

We started a Wagon Road & Trails with a local cacher and we now have 155 submissions which is pretty cool. We also like to find the Arizona Historical Markers as we find them pretty interesting and a great way to find out a little about our great state.

So do we Waymark? We do. Waymarking will never ever replace our passion for geocaching though, unless there is some changes to make it easier to navigate.

Yes, I WAYMARK. I even am a waymark aka Urban Cache Arizona WM6TVR http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM6TVR_Urban_cache_Arizona.
I am also the leader of the waymarking group Diner's Drive-ins and Dives, which is dedicated to the restaurants featured on the same television show as well as others. There are several in the Phoenix metro area.

Some Waymarks are total bunk for sure, but others are really neat places to visit. Some of my waymarks are Tonto Natural Bridge, Maria Cristina and Mimbalot Waterfalls in the Philippines, The giant Fred Flintstone in Valle, Arizona, Scorpion Gulch trading post near South Mountain preserve, the International Peace Arch on the Washington British Columbia border, and about 50 benchmark discs.
With waymarks it is just about finding that which interests you, and ignore the rest.

Imagine a virtual cache that says "To recieve credit on this virtual....Go to the Burger King and take a picture of you, your GPS, and the sign." Thankfully the virtuals were outlawed before an idea like that spread like wildfire and the virtuals we do have around are typically quality virtuals.

A guy on the main gc.com forums wrote this about virtuals that put the kabbosh on my theory from ealier in this thread:

tozainamboku wrote:The either don't know or don't remember that one problem of virtual caches were that people submitted many that the reviewers thought were "lame". So they had a "Wow" rule - only "Wow" virtuals were published. The only problem was that nobody could agree on what "wow" meant. Waymarking removes the "wow" requirement.

I went thru the WOW thing about 5 years ago and thus the virtual became the first stage of one of the first 5 x 5 caches in CO.
And I just submitted a new waymark. Why not, there are a lot of neat places out there.
