Suspected explosive device detonated
Posted - 3/7/2010 at 5:55PM

Tucson Police are investigating two suspected explosive devices near I-10 and Miracle Mile.

Traffic was re-routed for a couple of hours to keep residents safe.

T.P.D says around 12:30 Saturday a Department of Public Safety officer was patrolling the area, when someone walked up to them with two device that looked very much like a pipe bomb.

The bomb squad was called in to detonate them both.

Tucson Police are investigating where the devices came from.

Does anyone want to wager that they were caches?

I'd put money on it. Caches getting blown up is an all to often occurence. I've been saying for awhile that its only a matter of time before caches start getting blown up in AZ by the popo's. If they are caches, hopefully by the time they figure that out, the news won't care anymore.

The thing that seems weird to me is that in the article it says:

when someone walked up to them with two device that looked very much like a pipe bomb

It's all speculation, but I doubt a muggle would walk up holding something they supposed was a pipe bomb. But if it was a cacher walking up to them, I'd think the cacher would explain what they were and show them to the cops. I've been there and done that and the bomb squad never gets called. If it was a cache, maybe the cops waited till they put it back and blew it up anyway?

Where did you get that article? I'd like to follow along.

I thought that was weird too. I had to read the article a couple of times because of the grammer. In one sentence it sounded like it was one, and in another it was two! Here's the link to the article. http://www.kvoa.com/news/suspected-explosive-device-detonated/

By Van Nguyen - email

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - The bomb squad was called out Sunday after a man handed a Department of Public Safety officer what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

The officer was sitting in his car near I-10 and Miracle Mile when the man walked up to him and said he found the device.

Bomb squad units responded and closed off the area for a few hours. It has since reopened.

Police found a second device during the investigation.

Both were detonated safely.

Investigators say both contained dangerous materials, but officers aren't saying what that might be.

The all-clear was given around 3pm.

No one was hurt and so far, no word on any arrests in this case.

According to this article, they don't sound like geocaches if they "contained dangerous materials".

Dang, I thought Tucson might have just had it's first blown up geocache. Actually I'm happy that it might not have been a cache...we don't really need any more bad publicity! Thanks for sharing that article, I hadn't seen it yet and it was better written than the one I posted.
